CANANDAIGUA – Dr. David E. Baum has been named Thompson Health’s senior vice president of Medical Services, effective June 15.
A graduate of Albany Medical College, Dr. Baum attended the University of Rochester Medical Center for his residency program and first came to Thompson Hospital in 1987, working as an attending physician in the Emergency Department until 1989. Dr. Baum, who in 1993 received a juris doctorate from Cornell Law School, returned to Thompson in 1998 and has served as an attending physician in the Emergency Department since then.
The Honeoye Falls resident is past president of the F.F. Thompson Medical Staff and is a Thompson representative on the Board of Directors for UR Medicine, which Thompson Health affiliated with in 2012.
With both clinical and administrative responsibilities, the position of senior vice president of Medical Services involves working closely with other health system administrators and with physician leaders, providing oversight for both hospital-based care and long-term care.
“We are very excited to have Dr. Baum join our leadership team,” said Thompson Health President/CEO Michael F. Stapleton. “He is a skilled, well-respected physician with a strong commitment to patient care. He will no doubt offer tremendous insight as he helps our team ensure Thompson continues to provide the highest quality of care in an ever-changing healthcare environment.”
Leaving the position of senior vice president of Medical Services is Dr. Carlos R. Ortiz, who joined Thompson in 2006.
