CANANDAIGUA – UR Medicine’s Thompson Health has scheduled a training course for individuals interested in becoming certified nurse aides (CNAs), and is accepting applications until Monday, Aug. 1.
CNAs assist residents of the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center, a skilled-nursing facility in Canandaigua. Individuals accepted into the training program are hired into a CNA position (most likely part-time) and then attend a five-week training course. The course is to begin Oct. 3, with classes held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
Classes are fully paid for by Thompson, and individuals also receive $9 per hour will taking the course but attendance every day is mandatory.
Following the five weeks of training, participants are scheduled to take the New York State CNA Examination. Once the examination is completed, participants then go through a three-week clinical orientation in the specific area of the facility they will be working in, with a mentor overseeing them and providing guidance.
It is required at all CNA Training Class participants remain employed at the facility in a full- or part-time
status for at least one year following certification.
Applicants for the program must have a high school diploma or equivalent, with excellent communication and customer service skills. They must also be team-oriented, reliable and honest, with a positive attitude, patience and a compassionate, empathetic approach to care.
