CANANDAIGUA – “Clucks for Bucks,” an annual chicken barbecue benefitting palliative care at the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center, is canceled for this year due to COVID-19.
The event was to have been Sept. 17 at Crosswinds Wesleyan Church in Canandaigua, and is the second fund-raising event the palliative care committee has had to cancel due to the pandemic. The first was a bake sale slated for April.
Palliative Care at M.M. Ewing includes comforting items such as handmade quilts and CDs with soothing music as well as iPads for video chats with long-distance family members. In addition, the program provides information for families regarding the end-of-life process and a “comfort cart” as well as special furniture for families keeping vigil during non-COVID times.
“We appreciate all the support our program has received from the community in recent years and we look forward to bringing the barbecue and hopefully the bake sale back in 2021,” said Social Worker Kaci Klein, the program’s committee chairperson.
Those who would like to help the program offset the funding gap by donating online are invited to visit www.ThompsonHealth.com/Give and designate the gift for “CCC Palliative Care.”
