CANANDAIGUA, NY- Alyvia Burkey has joined Thompson Health as Community Health Educator for the Family Health and Wellness department. She is a certified health education specialist (CHES) with programming experience in alcohol and drug abuse, date rape prevention and childhood obesity prevention. Her responsibilities include developing and implementing new community health education programs, including childhood obesity prevention, teen risk prevention, and smoking cessation; representing Thompson Health at community health fairs; and coordinating Thompson’s support groups and the annual Portraits of Strength and Courage Event for prostate cancer survivors.
Prior to joining Thompson Health, Burkey was a Senior Healthcare Research Associate at Harris Interactive in Rochester. She received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Maryland in 2001 and her M.S. in Health Promotion Management from American University in Washington, D.C. in 2006. As a graduate student at American University, Alyvia served as an adjunct professor for the Department of Health and Fitness; she also interned at the national office of the AARP on their health promotion team.
