CANANDAIGUA – On Thursday, March 13, UR Medicine Thompson Health will host “From Punches to Prevention: Hidden Dangers of Concussions” from 6 to 8 p.m. at Finger Lakes Community College, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive in Canandaigua.
Ray Ciancaglini, a former professional boxer and nationally recognized concussion awareness advocate, is the keynote speaker. Ciancaglini has been battling Parkinson's Syndrome and Stage II Dementia Pugilistica for many years as a direct result of numerous untreated concussions. He played a key role in passing both New York’s Concussion Management Awareness Act and the federal Professional Boxing Safety Act. He has dedicated his life to educating young athletes, families, schools, and communities about the dangers of untreated concussions.
Also presenting will be Dr. Peter Obourn of URMC Orthopaedics & Physical Performance, joined by professionals from the Thompson Health Rehabilitation Services Department.
