Dr. Smith founded Finger Lakes Family Care in February of 2006 and
continues to accept new patients. His practice is based upon an
electronic medical records and communication system that has increased
his accessibility to patient care with same day office visits as well
as email and virtual visits with his patients. Please see his

A native of Buffalo, New York, Robert L. Smith, MD, graduated from
Rochester’s East High School in 1987. He earned his Bachelor’s degree
in Health and Sports Science/Biology at Wake Forest University in
Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1991.
His first career was that of a PGA Golf Professional at Stafford
Country Club in the Western New York PGA Section, from 1991-1993. He
then returned to school and completed his Master’s degree in Clinical
Chemistry at Rochester Institute of Technology in 1996. Dr. Smith
earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree at SUNY Upstate Medical University
in Syracuse, in 2000.
Dr. Smith completed his fourth and final year of medical school in the
Rural Medical Education Program, precepting with local physicians at F.
F. Thompson Hospital. Upon graduation from medical school, he attended
the St. Joseph’s Hospital Family Medicine Residency from 2000-2003. Dr.
Smith has now been an active member of the medical staff at F.F.
Thompson Hospital since 2003 and is currently acting
as Secretary/Treasurer of the medical staff. He was Chief of Pediatrics
from 1/1/2007 - 2/29/2008 and a member of the F.F. Thompson Hospital
Medical Staff's Credentials Committee and Medical Records
Committee from 1/2005 - 12/2007.
Dr. Smith is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the
New York State Academy of Family Physicians, and the Canandaigua
Medical Society. He is also active within the field of eHealth and
serves as a consultant for Apractis, LLC, a leading Personal Health
Records company. Dr. Smith is a ABFM Board Certified in Family
Physician.
Aside from professional endeavors, his personal interests include
spending time with his wife and daughter, competing in local, state,
and national amateur golf tournaments, non-contact adult ice hockey
leagues, and travel.
